Reed relays use the reed switch as the heart of their switching mechanism. And as a result can switch billions of reliable operations (load dependent). Also they can switch up to 10,000 Volts and hold off up to 15,000 Volts. Furthermore, reed relays switch very low level signals as low as femtoamps and nanovolts. This is due to their environmentally or hermetically sealed contacts. Additionally they are very small and offer many unique switching abilities unlike semiconductor and electromechanical relays. These include stable low contact resistance <150 milli-ohms, low capacitance, high insulation resistance >10^14 Ohms, and carry currents up to 5 Amps continuous and 10 Amps pulsed. Reed relays operate in the 500 microsecond to 3 millisecond range and withstand shock up to 150G.
