SMD Sensors for Automotive Applications - MK16 & MK23
The MK16 Reed Sensor, an over-molded sensor and the MK23 a magnetically actuated, open Reed proximity Switches for SMT mounting are two surface mount sensors which can be ideal used in a gear shifter application. Both are ideal suitable for applications in the automotive sector and characterized by a high reliability. They require very little space, surface mount and no power consumption which is especially important in the automotive industry, because more and more advices in a vehicle are powered by a battery to have power supply. Creepage and so called silent appliances can induce that a car have a break down – with Reed Switches from Standex-Meder this could not happened….
In opposite to other technology the reed sensor require no external readout electronics, which reduces the cost and guarantee an easy handling. The reed sensor send a direct signal to the micro computer. Additionally though the use of Reed Sensors you can reduce components which reduce the power consumption from the battery, because reed sensors need no power consumption in the stand by (Powerless switching). Another good reason for a reed switch is there is no switching noise, the switch is hermetically sealed and the pins could not oxidate - so it doesn't matter if any liquid or dust come into the gearshift box - our Reed Switches works absolutely reliable.
