Throttle Reed Sensor Solution for off-road recreation vehicles such as Snowmobiles
MEDER electronic, an industry leader in reed switch technology, has developed a vane operated position sensor to detect failure of the throttle control of an off-road vehicle. A dangerous situation could potentially arise if the vehicle's accelerator cable becomes frozen or otherwise adversely affected by the extreme conditions present in off road environments. Under these circumstances, the vehicle may continue to function as if the operator has their foot applied to the accelerator, even though the operator has removed their foot and the pedal assembly has physically retracted. A "vane" on the accelerator pedal assembly is detected by MEDER's self contained reed sensor. The reed switch based vane sensor will detect that the foot pedal has been disengaged, sending a signal to the Engine Control Module to force the engine into idle mode. This will prevent a potentially catastrophic incident where the engine races uncontrollably. This throttle release vane sensor has been designed by MEDER to work in the harsh environment of off-road recreation vehicles. MEDER electronic designed a custom tooled housing to meet the customer's requirements and utilizes their in-house SMT assembly process to manufacture the internal PCB of this sensor.
