January, 2006—Schaumburg, IL USA—Omron Electronic Components LLC announces the availability of a family of sealed snap action switches that are designed to handle the rigors of many transportation applications. Carrying an IP67 rating these switches are mainly used to detect range of motion (limit detect) or the position of an object. All of the switches are 100% inspected for leaks (using a vacuum pump air-leak test). The family includes the D2VW, D2SW, D2HW, D2JW, D2FW-G, and the Z-55 series of switches. All of these switches are currently RoHS compliant except the Z-55, which will be compliant before the 2006 deadline.
This family of switches can handle micro loads all the way up to 15 Amps, and are available in SPDT, SPST-NC/SPST-NO configurations. They range in size from 24.2H x 17.45Dx 49.2W mm (Z-55) to the ultra miniature D2HW measuring only 7H x 5.3D x 13.3/18.5H mm. Terminal options include; PCB, solder, quick connect, screw and wire leads. Lever options that compliment the standard pin plunger actuator include hinge (various lengths) roller, simulated roller, leaf and simulated leaf.
Applications in an automobile include audio, interior lamp, accelerator or break pedal position, door latch, seat position, power mirror, trunk latch, sunroof, and shift levers. Other transportation applications can be found within trucks, construction equipment, forklift trucks, RVs, ATVs, golf carts, snowmobiles, wave runners, and riding lawn mowers.
