After years of success selling instrinsically safe barriers to hazardous location industries in Japan, we are now focusing on these products by adding new models and enhancing our current offerings, while obtaining global approvals. The cornerstone of IDEC hazardous location products in North America, our existing EB3C discrete input barriers (also known as isolators) line will now be joined by additional models to the EB3 line of discrete input/output barriers.
Over the past ten years, intrinsically safe equipment has seen tremendous growth in the North American market. Compact and lightweight, our new discrete input barrier, discrete output barrier and discrete input barrier with redundant outputs give customers more flexibility when designing industrial equipment for hazardous locations. EB3 barriers can be combined together or with additional IDEC industrial automation and component devices (not necessarily designed for hazardous location use).
IDEC offers three types of barriers: EB3C, EB3N and EB3L. EB3C is for traditional discrete input contacts, which are isolated from both relay and solid state outputs. EB3N is for safety inputs, which are isolated from safety control devices. It also has redundant outputs. Lastly, EB3L is unique because it isolates safety inputs with lamp/LED and buzzer indicating outputs. There is big potential market for these products, with target industries including: oil & gas, mining, water treatment, agriculture, automated painting systems, petrochemical, semiconductor front & back-end fab equipment, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, instrumentation, and food processing. IDEC discrete barriers are ideal for control circuits that exist in Division 1 and Zone 0 & 1 areas.
Why should customers spend more for hazardous location components that they don't need when IDEC barriers are smaller, more economical, and easier to use? And this is only the beginning! The EB3 series is just one of several hazardous location products scheduled for release within the next year.
